Reiki
is pronounced “ray-key”. The word Reiki is a Japanese
word, Rei which means unseen or spirit, and ki which is power or
energy. The literal translation of the word Reiki in the Japanese
language is “ unseen or spirit power”. Quite often in
translation to English, language looses its original meaning and
gets adapted to western culture. The most common translation of
Reiki is “universal life force energy”.
Reiki
is a system of energy work rediscovered in Japan by Dr Mikao Usui
who taught in the early 1900‘s. Reiki is one of the more widely
known forms of energy healing today. Reiki works with the Oriental
based system of meridian points located in the body and involves
direct application of ki (energy) for the purpose of strengthening
and balancing the client’s energy. This Oriental system based
on the belief that within all living things flows an essence. This
essence is the life force, (without it there is no life). Chinese
call it Chi, Japanese call it Ki. Within this essence exists two
elements male and female or yin and yang. When ki energy flows freely
through our meridians, it helps us achieve a balanced state of yin
and yang energy within the body. If our energy becomes blocked,
stagnated or weakened, it can result in physical, mental or emotional
health imbalances.
Reiki
is based on a series of hand positions that work with the meridians
and in the body restoring and balancing energy. A full treatment
lasts an hour sometimes longer, a short one about 30 min. During
a treatment, the Reiki channel is able to harness ki energy and
transfer the ki energy to the recipient.
Reiki
is available to all persons regardless of age, religion, or circumstance,
and can benefit anyone who is sick or well. The energy comes to
you as much as you need and goes to where you need. The energy flows
from the universe and is drawn, through the channel’s hands
by the receiver who will take as much or as little as is required
at that time. Reiki compliments other health care and medical treatments
as it speeds the healing process and can minimize the side effects
of conventional medical treatments. Receiving a treatment increases
the flow of energy into your physical body and the energy works
to harmonize, and bring balance to you. It helps to energize and
heal the body physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Reiki can
be used for the healing of animals, plants, as well as people. Channels
will often use Reiki on their homes, meals, cars, appliances, etc.
Experiences
differ from person to person in receiving a treatment. Reiki channels
may experience warm or tingling sensations in their hands as the
feel the flow of energy during a treatment. Patients usually feel
strong heat from the channel’s hands, become very relaxed
and often fall asleep on the table. Many patients have reported
relief from pain, general relaxation, faster healing of injuries,
emotional calming or release, lowered blood pressure and more. All
this happens without direct conscious intervention by the Channel.
It is simply the channel’s job to get out of the way and let
Reiki do its work.
Living
Reiki is about honour, commitment and a tradition. Spiritually,
Reiki can be seen as a gateway bringing pure love from the universe.
It is this love which allows us to transcend our ego and help us
remember our true nature.
The
true essence of Reiki and its impact on our daily lives can best
be illustrated through the 5 Reiki principles.
Just
for today do not worry
Just for today do not anger
Just for today be grateful
Just for today earn your living honestly
Just for today be kind to all living things
